Hanapin Flips High Turnover Rates to High Retention Rates to be One of the Best Places to Work in Indiana
Bloomington, Indiana February 19th, 2018 – For the 6th year in a row, Hanapin has made the list as one of the Best Places to Work in Indiana. This statewide survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best employers in Indiana, benefiting the state’s economy, workforce and businesses.
“Building a work culture that inspires and retains employees did not happen overnight. We continually question ourselves and seek feedback from the team to improve and advance our policies and benefits. We never say “that’s enough,” because we know we can always improve and make Hanapin an even better place to work. We’re humbled and proud that for 6 straight years, we’ve made the Indiana Chamber’s list of Best Places to Work,” says Rebecca Reott, Hanapin’s Director of HR.
As with any company though, Hanapin didn’t start out with an award-winning workplace. The first year Hanapin applied, we didn’t make the list. We knew we had to do better and we did. In fact, in 2014 we had a 68% retention rate and a 38% turnover rate. Just 4 years later, our retention rate has boosted to 95% and our turnover rate is down to 6%! We continuously work to improve our policies, our benefits, and the happiness of our employees. By focusing on our people, we’ve driven the company culture to be one of the best in the state and country. Along with being honored in the state of Indiana as a Best Place to Work, we’ve also been recognized by Ad Age and Inc. as one of the Best Workplaces in America.
“I’m still on Team Hanapin after 7 years for two reasons – the collaboration and creativity. I work with some incredibly bright people who bring perspectives to the table that I may not consider, that’s why we keep growing. It’s why I keep growing. The job isn’t always easy, but knowing I get to solve unique problems and create new solutions for future needs of our entire agency is what keeps the drive up. Watching us grow and keep breaking records – it’s exhilarating to be a part of,” states Associate Director of Sales, Kayla Kurtz.
Hanapin has continually been a progressive company in both workplace culture and employee benefits since launching in 2004. An excellent employee training program, as well as an award-winning Management Training Program result in an 95% retention rate. Recent initiatives include Paid Parental Leave for moms and dads for 6 weeks of 100% of their salary, as well as implementing Stay Interviews with every employee. Stay Interviews allow us to get feedback from happy and engaged employees about why they stay at Hanapin, and what would make them leave, before they actually think about leaving.
“I started with Hanapin in 2013, excited to be employed at a place dedicated to company culture. While it was great back then, the dedication of our leadership team to listen to feedback, look for patterns, and find solutions that work, has resulted in a better workplace, even as we’ve grown bigger. It is more than just making sure we as employees are happy—it is ensuring we are engaged in the work we do and engaged with our coworkers,” said Lauren Rosner, a Senior Production Specialist.
Companies from across the state entered the two-part survey process to determine the Best Places to Work in Indiana. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. This part of the process was worth approximately 25% of the total evaluation. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. This part of the process was worth approximately 75% of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final rankings. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process in Indiana, analyzed the data, and determined the final rankings.
On May 3rd, 2018 the Indiana Chamber will host a dinner at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis where they will recognize the winners of this award and announce the rankings for those who made the top 125.
Hanapin will be hiring for digital advertising and administrative positions throughout the year. Interested applicants may apply online at https://www.hanapinmarketing.com/careers/open-positions/
